Thoughts as Things

THIS MAY SEEM a strange idea for some, yet perfectly natural for others.  Have a quick glance at your perception of thoughts.  How do you see thoughts?  Ephemeral?  Coming and going?  Automatic?  No real substance?  Are they yours in any sense?  Our perception of thoughts is largely a reflection of our capacity for, and skill in, thinking.  If we see thoughts like flies buzzing through, or perhaps a nagging voice concerned about some impending issue, then we have little grasp of the power inherent in thought.  As a consequence, we pay it no attention, nor accord it worthwhile.  Thinking is entangled with freedom.  Your sense of freedom is a function of your ability to think freely, to shape and forge a thought with a power imbued by the conditions in which it came about.
